BLOOD

WORD SPREAD OF A $50,000 CONTRACT on BO Barnes. Ever since Pete had murdered Karlton Hines, almost a year ago, Barnes had been threatening retaliation. Twin had heard one night that Barnes was in a nearby club, so he’d had Pipe drop him off at the front entrance. He intended to gun him down, but Barnes had spotted him and fled through a back door. But now Barnes was extorting Sex Money Murder’s main supplier, John Castro. And it was Castro who had set the bounty. Even Suge, two years into his sentence in prison in Massachusetts, heard about it. “Yo, I hear they got fifty stacks on BO’s head,” he said to Pipe on a call. “I hope he’s still around when I get out. I want that money.”

In May of 1995, six months after Twin had killed Frisky in the nightclub, Dula Martin spotted Barnes, wearing black sweatpants and a green hoodie, a diamond-encrusted gold Rolex on his wrist, standing on the corner of Castle Hill and Powell Avenues with a rap producer. Dula called Twin and then Pete. Both raced to the scene, competing for the privilege of murdering Barnes. Twin reached him first, delivering a shot from a few feet away that slammed into Barnes’s skull an inch above his right eyebrow. He fired once more into his chest. The record producer fought Twin for the gun, but Twin shook him off. Pete’s phone rang, and he relayed the news to Pipe. “Twin got him.”
